Hiring Managers of prominent organizations are using social media as a valuable tool for sourcing and recruiting prospective qualified talent. Social networking allows large organizations to build their employment brand and awareness, expand the breadth and depth of their network, target top talent in a large range of skill sets, and improve the effectiveness of their recruiting efforts. According to a recent research report by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), 76% of companies said that they do use or are planning to use social media sites for recruiting.

“Social media is a primary vehicle of communication today, and because much of that communication is public, it’s no surprise some recruiters and hiring managers are tuning in,” says Rosemary Haefner, vice president of human resources at CareerBuilder. Several large IT Staffing companies use head hunters for their talent acquisition. LinkedIn is a dedicated business networking site, and offers the easiest access to resume-style information. When it comes to talent acquisition, the standard procedure of posting an ad and preparing for the deluge of resumes does not work for social recruiting; instead, it’s about building relationships that you can rely on when it’s time to hire. Social media is an integral tool for finding quality talent. If posting to job boards is working, continue it; if a large IT Staffing Company consistently delivers the talent you seek, keep using their service. Key is to pay attention to methods which deliver the best results – and invest your efforts there.
